Soil Care Organic Earthworm Castings
SoilCare is 100% pure, organic earthworm castings, a premium soil conditioner with rich humus content which regenerates and adds beneficial microbial life to soils, thereby promoting robust plant, tree and crop growth and resilience to pests and diseases.
Earthworms are renowned for their crucial role in the creation, maintenance and functioning of fertile soils since the beginning of time. So important is their function that they are considered and celebrated as indicators of soil fertility. Their castings are rich in humus, beneficial microbes and natural plant stimulants which lead to healthy plants and fertile soils. When no earthworms are to be found, this is a sure sign of degraded, contaminated, depleted soil with poor productive potential. To correct these soils, conditioning with Talborne SoilCare earthworm castings which are produced by processing dairy manure from naturally grazed cows through the renowned recycling red wriggler earthworms, are recommended.

Conditioning soils before planting vegetable and herb seedlings:
It is essential to condition soils for successful vegetable production before planting.
- Condition soil before planting seeds or seedlings: Till SoilCare Earthworm Castings into topsoil at 1 to 2 cups (250 to 500ml) per m²
- Planting seedlings: Apply 2ml to 5ml into planting hole
- Planting trees and shrubs: Mix with soil in planting hole 500ml to 2L of SoilCare Earthworm Castings. Adjust for tree or shrub size.
Add to enrich Growing, Potting, and Seedling Mediums: Mix ratio 15 to 20% of SoilCare Earthworm Castings to commercial medium or on farm mix.
Turf Care & Landscape Maintenance:
- Lawn Topdressing: Apply 250ml per m² every 6 months to condition soil
- Conditioning of Flower Beds, Rose Gardens: Apply 250ml per m² every 3 to 6 months as required.
- Trees & Shrubs: Spread 500ml to 2L around rootzone every 6 months. Adjust for tree or shrub size.
Watering after application is recommended.

Organic Potting Mix for Herbs, Vegetables & Flower Containers: Most often the commercial potting soils available to the gardener are very light and porous and the water runs through with minimum retention. It makes container gardening quite a challenge as plants too often die from either under watering, or nutrients are leached as a result of overwatering. To improve water retention while still allowing for good drainage, adding soil life and organic nutrients to the potting mix, use the following recipe for organic growing success.
Talborne Organics Enriched Potting Mix
- 1 X 30DM (30L) of Preferably Homemade or Commercial Potting Soil
- (Best quality from mixed sources, well decomposed, seed and disease free)
- MIX into Potting Soil
- 250ml (1 cup) SoilCare Earthworm Castings
- 30ml (6x5ml teaspoons) Talborne Organics VITA Grow 2:3:2(16) Fertilizer
- 100ml Dolomitic Lime (Agricultural Lime)
- 500ml Vermiculite/Perlite
Feeding Container Plants:
- To maintain condition of plants in pots, feed approximately every 4 months or as required with organic VITA Veg 6:3:4(16) or Talborne Seedling Food or Talborne Vita Fruit & Flower 3:1:5 as per Directions for Use on the bag.
- To condition and re-generate growing medium approximately every 6 months spread 250ml per m² of SoilCare Earthworm Castings onto surface of growing medium.

Vermicast contains living microbes, so it is best to use straight after purchase. It can however be stored for up to 6 months.
